Common mistakes when mixing burgundy
Burgundy is a dark, slightly cool red, and reaching for black to darken it deadens the colour instead of deepening it. A red darkened with a touch of its complement, or a naturally dark red pigment to start with, keeps it rich instead of turning muddy-brown. Watch your proportions closely: burgundy sits in a narrow value range where a little too much dark just tips it into looking like brown.
