Paint Mixing and Painting Tools
Every Chromilla tool starts from the same mixing model: Kubelka-Munk pigment mixing, aimed at the color after it dries. Here is what each one does, who it is for, and what it cannot do.
Paint mixing calculator
The mixer on the homepage turns a hex code, a photo or a camera sample into tube ratios for acrylic, oil or watercolor, calibrated to your paint brand, with batch amounts in ml or grams. It is for anyone who wants a starting recipe instead of trial and error. It cannot promise a perfect match: some colors sit outside what a palette can reach, and when that happens the recipe says so.
Open the mixerPalette Builder
Palette Builder keeps a list of the tubes you own, and every recipe in the mixer stays inside that list. It suits painters with a fixed kit who are tired of recipes that call for paint they do not have. It cannot invent a color your tubes do not reach. It shows the out-of-reach colors and a best next tube instead, by Chromilla's color model.

Open Palette BuilderValue Study
Value Study splits a photo into 3, 5 or 7 value zones and gives each zone a mixable average color. It is for planning a painting's lights and darks before you commit to color. Zones are cut by lightness only, so two very different hues of equal value land in the same zone. The photo stays in your browser.

Open Value StudyBrand Converter
Brand Converter finds the same pigment in another paint brand, then the same main pigment, then the closest color. It helps when a tube is discontinued, out of stock, or you are switching brands. It only knows the brands in Chromilla's catalog, and a closest-color match uses a different pigment, so it will mix differently.

Open Brand ConverterLimited Palettes
Limited Palettes shows what the Zorn, earth, primary triad and travel palettes can mix, with a color map for each. It is for choosing a small palette before you buy tubes, or for seeing where a palette runs out. The maps come from Chromilla's color model with generic pigments, not your exact brand tubes.

Open Limited PalettesGuided Session
Guided Session turns a reference photo into a painting plan, with an order and a mix for every big area. It suits painters who want to know what to paint first and what to mix for each step. It leaves drawing and fine details to you. The breakdown and first two steps are free; the full plan needs Chromilla Pro.

Open Guided SessionMy paintings
My paintings saves your reference photo so every photo tool opens on the same image and remembers your progress. It is for returning to a painting without uploading its photo again in each tool. Saving needs a free account. It tracks the tools you visit, not the brushwork or layers on your actual canvas.

Open My paintingsGrid Drawing
Grid Drawing puts a grid over your reference, sized to your canvas, with Sketch lines to help transfer the shapes. It suits painters copying a photo one square at a time before they start painting. Sketch simplifies edges, so it can miss faint shapes. The photo stays in your browser; canvas-size printing needs Chromilla Pro.

Open Grid DrawingMix Correction
Mix Correction compares a sample of your paint with the target and suggests a tube and amount to add. It helps painters whose first mix is close but still needs an adjustment. Camera lighting and glare can skew the reading. It cannot recover a color outside your palette's reach. Full use needs Chromilla Pro.

Open Mix CorrectionArea Sampler
Area Sampler lets you trace a shape on a photo and pulls its highlight, midtone and shadow, each with a recipe. It suits painters working from reference photos who want the light and shadow of one form. It reads the photo as captured, so camera white balance and lighting end up in the colors. Full use needs Chromilla Pro.

- Scan Tubes: Add a tube to your palette by scanning its label. Chromilla reads the name and color index, then files it under your paints.

- Palette Cards: Tag mixes by project in your Journal and print or save them as one palette card for the easel.
- Mix Journal: Your last 9 mixes free. Every mix, tagged and searchable, with Pro.
- Color Gym: A two-minute daily mixing drill. Match the target with four tubes and learn whether your hue, value or chroma is off.
- Palette Optimizer: Give Chromilla your target colors and a tube budget. It picks the smallest set that covers them and maps what that palette can reach.
- Mixing Chart: See every two-tube mix and tint your own paints can make, with dry colors. Print it and paint it next to the predictions.
- Session Mode: Host a live mixing class. Guests join from their phones and mix the same colors with you.
