Common mistakes when mixing lavender

Lavender is a pale violet, and violets are unusually sensitive to which red and which blue go into them, some pairs give a clean violet, others give mud. Ultramarine with a quinacridone red or violet tends to stay clean; a cadmium red with the same blue usually doesn't. If your lavender reads brownish instead of soft purple, the red in your mix is probably too warm or too opaque for the job.
